Getting Started
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session will begin with an assessment phase where we'll discuss what brings you to therapy and your goals for treatment. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, but you're also encouraged to share what feels comfortable. We'll explore your history, current challenges, and begin building the secure therapeutic relationship that's essential for healing. Don't worry if it takes time to feel comfortable opening up – this is completely normal and expected.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
A good therapeutic fit involves feeling heard, understood, and safe with your therapist. I offer phone or video introductions so we can connect and explore your goals and challenges together. During our initial conversations, you should feel comfortable with my approach and sense that I understand your unique experiences. Trust your instincts – if something doesn't feel right, it's important to discuss this openly.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?
It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. Many people wonder if their problems are "big enough" or if they can handle things on their own. Therapy isn't just for crisis situations – it's a valuable tool for personal growth, understanding yourself better, and developing healthy coping strategies. I'm happy to have an introductory conversation to help you explore whether therapy feels like the right step for you at this time.
How long does therapy typically take?
The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your individual goals, the issues you're working on, and your personal circumstances. Some people find significant benefit in a few months, while others choose to engage in longer-term work. For trauma recovery, which is one of my specialties, healing often takes time and patience. We'll periodically discuss your progress and assess how you're improving, making any necessary adjustments to our treatment plan.
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
I primarily offer therapy services in person because I believe connection is the healer. However, I am available for telehealth sessions for unique circumstances or emergency needs. In-person sessions are generally preferred for building the strong therapeutic relationship that supports healing and growth.
How often will we meet?
Most clients benefit from weekly sessions, especially when beginning therapy or working through significant issues like trauma. As you progress, we might adjust the frequency based on your needs and goals. Consistency is important for building trust and maintaining therapeutic momentum.
